Root Canal

Root Canal

When a tooth gets infected, this can feel very painful and will require treatment. At Dentology, we’re careful to ensure this procedure is as comfortable and stress free as possible.

A nerve infection can result in pain, swelling and general discomfort. If left untreated, an abscess may form and without intervention will lead to the tooth needing to be removed. So it is important to treat the problem as soon as possible.

The treatment process

Your dentist will ensure the area being treated has been numbed with local anaesthetic prior to starting the treatment.

At your first visit, the infected part of the tooth, or the pulp, is cleared away. The root canal must be cleaned and shaped, to prepare it for a filling. The final filling won’t be put in until the second appointment, so a temporary filling will be installed, and the tooth will be left to rest. This resting period is to ensure that infection has been completely cleared before the final filling is put in place.
